Guidelines for Safe, Inclusive and Equitable Research Fieldwork

Fieldwork often forms a key component of research. The aim of the Guidelines for Safe, Inclusive and Equitable Fieldwork project was to compile a set of written guidelines that could be used, alongside an ethics and inclusivity assessment and a code of conduct, to facilitate and promote safe, equitable and inclusive research fieldwork for all.

This work was led by Dr Sam Wimpenny as part of the UK Centre for Observation and Modelling of Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Tectonics (COMET) and was funded by a Research England Enhancing Research Culture Grant. Links to all the resources produced were shared via a project page on the COMET website.

The project also published an article in Nature (open access version of the Nature article available here) and highlighted the need for bespoke guidance to target specific issues, which the team are now working to research and create.
